Tattoo Aftercare Information
A tattoo is essentially an open wound through which bacteria can enter and cause infection and pain. These tattoo health risks can ruin the color of the tattoo. To help keep your ink looking as fresh as the day that you got your tattoo, keep the following mind:
Tattoo Aftercare Instructions
- After getting inked, keep the bandage on the tattoo for at least 5 hours, but no more than 12 hours
- When you remove your bandage, do it under warm running water to avoid damaging the tattoo
- Wash the tattoo with warm, soapy water. For best results, use an unscented soap
- Apply a lotion or moisturizer to the tattoo several times a day for about 2 weeks, until the tattoo stops peeling
- Don't pick or scratch your tattoo- Let your skin peel. Don't worry if the color initially flecks off, this is just dead skin
- Try not to soak the tattoo until it has completely peeled
- Avoid exposure to the sun. If you must be exposed to the sun, use an effective sun protection product . Be sure that you know how to choose the best sunscreen product for your skin type.
- Don't shave the area where your tattoo is until it has completely and totally healed
Don't be afraid to ask for help. Call us or doctor if you have questions or concerns. You can also feel free to contact us if you have any questions. Remember, there is no such thing as a dumb question!
After the tattoo has healed, the aftercare process is far from complete, however. Exposure to the elements and exposure to the sun can cause your ink to fade, causing your tattoo to look dull and old. Apply sunscreen to your tattoo on a regular basis, and be sure to apply it liberally before being exposed to the sun for a prolonged time.
